With 12 years experience as a PGA Professional most of Simon's career has been spent at Purley Downs Golf Club where he has been the Head Professional since 2006.

Throughout his career Simon has been dedicated to coaching golfers of all abilities from Tour Professionals and elite county players to complete beginners. In 2007 Simon started The Short Game, a business specialising in custom fitting the leading manufacturers’ putters & wedges to the player.

The venture has been supported by all the major golf manufacturers including Callaway, Cleveland, Ping, Scotty Cameron, Titleist and Yes! Golf.

Purley Downs is now respected as the centre of teaching excellence in the local area and the Professional Shop, has become a very successful retail outlet serving members and visitors alike.


Coaching And Custom Fitting

  • Established The Short Game

  • In 2007 the Professional’s indoor teaching room was built to Simon's specifications. The latest technologies in digital analysis systems were introduced: C-Swing video coaching system, Quintic Putter Ball Roll Analysis, TOMI putter coaching and fitting software and Vector Pro – Launch Monitor for long game club fitting.

  • Purley Downs is now not only a specialist retailer for Callaway, Cleveland, Ping & Titleist but is also a Custom Fitting Centre for all these major brands.

  • Purley Downs is also now officially sanctioned by Yes! Golf as a specialist Putter Custom Fitting Centre

  • Established the ‘Simon Iliffe Teaching Academy’ – a teaching scheme involving a one-year commitment to improving the player’s game. The significances of goal setting and mentoring are evident throughout the year from the success rate in terms of reducing the player’s handicap. The academy includes on-course game management tuition, video analysis and short game instruction.

  • Organised coaching sessions for junior and club teams, many of whom have gone on to become county champions.
